Preventative dentistry
Without diligent brushing and flossing at home, plaque can form on your teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that eats away your tooth enamel. If plaque is left on your teeth for long periods of time it forms a hard substance called calculus. Calculus can form above or below the gum line and has to be removed with special tools. If calculus is not removed it can cause bone loss and periodontal disease. Come in for a doctor's exam and X-rays at our dental office in Star Valley, Thayne Wyoming to find any existing issues and get cleaning to make sure things don’t get worse.
Restorative Dentistry
If decay is found in the tooth enamel it needs to be removed and replaced with a composite resin filling. Ideally, the decay can be removed before reaching the inner pulp. If decay is left untreated it will eventually advance into the pulp and cause tooth sensitivity and eventually an infection in the root of the tooth. In order to save the tooth at this point the nerve or pulp tissue would need to be removed and filled, this procedure is called a root canal. If the infection is left too long the tooth would eventually require an extraction.
